So who are we?

OUR TEAM

MARK TIGWELL

Director

Mark has been a Canberra lawyer for more than 34 years and has helped thousands of people with their legal matters.  Mark’s clients appreciate his practical no nonsense results focussed advice and guidance to achieve the outcomes the client wants. Still acting for his 2nd ever client from 1984, Mark has been and continues to be a trusted adviser and confidant of several generations of many families and business owners across both the country and worldwide.

A people person, Mark strives to understand clients’ needs and goals and tailors his advice and achieves results to suit and benefit the client, not himself.

Mark is keen to share his knowledge and advice and welcomes a call ‘out of the blue’ from someone who just wants to check something or just ask a quick question.  These free chats are just part of the holistic and continuing service Mark gives to his clients during and well after their particular matter has been finished.

A keen cook and wine lover, Mark’s downtime is often spent reliving the greatest musical periods of the century, belting out versions of popular masterpieces much to the annoyance of his family and his cats, his harshest critics.

HELEN RODRÍGUEZ

Lawyer

Helen worked in legal offices for many years before taking the plunge and starting her legal degree.  Her various legal support roles exposed her to the practical workings and application of the law; the lawyers she worked with and came into contact with planted a seed.  Once kernel started to sprout, Helen began her law degree as a mature aged student. Once admitted, she developed a passion for property, estate planning and deceased estate administration.  She loves helping people navigate through these areas of law – among the most common reasons people come in to contact with lawyers.  Helen strives to demystify the process and provides clients with no-nonsense practical advice and timely outcomes.

Helen also loves to share knowledge, teach and train.  This saw her take a hiatus from legal practice.  She taught law graduates at the ANU’s Legal Workshop the practical ins and outs of buying and selling houses.  While working at the ANU, she found herself helping clients at the free Legal Aid Clinic.  Her time in academia allowed her to hone and develop her skills as a lawyer.

Helen is a proud Territorian;  having grown up in the Northern Territory and then moving to Australian Capital Territory in her late 20’s.

When she isn’t in the office, you might find her walking Pepe (the Golden Retriever) around Lake Burley Griffin.  Pepe also insists that she regularly take him to his Saturday walking group outing.  A social creature you will also find her catching up with friends.  You might even see her in the kitchen baking or trying out all manner of new recipes.  She refers to her Bedfords’ colleagues and Saturday walking group as her “test kitchens”.  Sunday family lunches are legendary and another place to try new recipes!  You might also find her reading, knitting or cross-stitching.

(PS she is a fluent Spanish (Castilian) speaker)
